This site is designed to provides educators access to significant bodies of work from my 30+ years across the educational landscape.
The Civilization Project is the constructivist project/problem based learning experiences when teaching Ancient Civilizations. Mine was during 6th grade social studies in South Carolina. I distributed it and trained others in a couple of other states with different social studies, science and even language arts themes. The basic premise holds across all content; when students are engaged in making choices to create their own product and use elements from the subject area to address issues within the subject, strong learning and engagement take place.
The gender work is during my time supporting choice options within public, private and international schools as well as informing others about the tendencies found across males and females, not absolutes and certainly not set in stone, but something to recognize that not all students learn the same and there are some influences that might be more typical than others. Knowing about these and reflecting on them for the individuals within your classrooms is the purpose. This work is not about forcing students into stereotypes or further marginalization of students, it is about reaching and teaching students so that they, and the teacher, can be successful.
Data work is about bringing the array of data to educators beyond just broad averages. Looking at cohorts and subgroups helps to better understand how educational program impact the community of learners. The examples provided are just that, examples. The platforms where the data comes from may have changed in terms of the reports that are provided; nonetheless, the examples are still relevant, some additional steps may be necessary to find the right data on the respective platform.
